Biography

Jodie was born and raised in Kamloops, BC. She attended Valleyview Secondary School from grade 8 through to grade 11, then moved to Victoria to graduate with honours at St. Michael's University School in 2003.

Although accepted into three universities as required by St. Michael's graduation policy, Jodie decided to move to Vancouver in 2004 to become an advocate for drug policy reform, civil liberties and sustainability. She immediately got involved in activism with "Prince of Pot" Marc Emery and the BC Marijuana Party.

In early 2005, Jodie started working as assistant editor of Marc Emery's Vancouver-produced Cannabis Culture Magazine, then became the full-time editor by early 2006. She and Marc fell in love and got married on July 23rd 2006. Jodie lives in downtown Vancouver; her husband Marc was extradited to the USA on May 20th, 2010 to serve a 5-year federal prison sentence, but she is working hard to have him transferred to Canada to do his time. (Read more about that by clicking here.)

Jodie's passions in life include human rights, news, politics, civil liberties, the environment, and ending drug prohibition. She had run in two provincial elections as a BC Marijuana Party candidate (2005 general election, and the 2008 by-election) and decided to join the BC Green Party and seek a BC Green nomination for the 2009 election because she was attracted to the 10 Green Principles. She is also the BC Green Party's policing & crime critic, and was elected as a Director-At-Large at the 2010 BC Green Party Annual General Meeting.

Gang violence and crime caused by prohibition, government malfeasance and its impact on the community, and the fiscal mismanagement by the BC Liberals are important issues among voters. Jodie's BC Green Party messages of ending prohibition to end gang violence, reforming the way business and government work together, and living sustainably for a healthier and wealthier future offers voters a clear and sharp alternative to the failed NDP and Liberal governance. If elected to the Legislature as a BC Green Party MLA, Jodie will be a loud, vocal critic of the status quo, and will help find solutions to the problems her constituents and all British Columbians face today.
